Gnarlo turns up as one of the many odd faces drifting through the fringes of New New York, the kind of background figure Futurama specializes in — glimpsed doing something strange, said with total confidence, and gone before anyone asks for an explanation.

David Herman built a career voicing exactly this sort of character on the show, dropping in a line or two with a deadpan certainty that makes the joke land harder than the screen time would suggest.
