Ginger

Ginger is an older woman who drifts into Josh's orbit through his family's circle, unbothered by the chaos swirling around him. She speaks plainly, offers opinions nobody asked for, and treats the show's tangle of anxieties with a shrug and a joke, more interested in getting on with things than dwelling on them.

Denise Drysdale plays her with the unhurried confidence of someone who has seen it all and stopped being impressed by drama, which makes her a wonderful counterweight to a show full of young people spiraling. Her comic timing is dry rather than broad, and she never lets a scene tip into sentimentality.
