George Hearst

Gerald McRaney plays him at a murmur, which is exactly what makes him terrifying — Deadwood is full of loud men, and Hearst never needs to raise his voice to win. The writing gives him genuine philosophy about ownership and the earth, so his menace feels earned rather than cartoonish, a true match for Swearengen.
