George Costanza

George is Jerry's oldest friend, a short, stocky, slow-witted, self-loathing bald man forever chasing money and women he doesn't respect and getting stiffed for both. He lies reflexively, panics under any social pressure, and treats every minor humiliation as a catastrophe worth scheming his way out of.

Jason Alexander plays neurosis as physical comedy — the strangled voice, the flailing hands, the whole body recoiling from shame. The writing never lets George win cleanly or learn anything, and that stubborn, cowardly consistency is the joke: he is petty on a heroic scale, and utterly convinced he's the wronged party.
