Geoff Schwartz lives next door to the Goldbergs, a gawky, well-meaning kid perpetually caught between wanting to fit in with the older crowd and being hopelessly uncool about it. He hangs around the family's orbit with an eager, puppyish loyalty, quick with a nervous joke and quicker to blush around Erica.

The show leans into his dorkiness without ever making him pathetic — Sam Lerner plays the fumbling sincerity so straight that his crushes and mishaps land as sweet rather than embarrassing. He's the rare sitcom nice guy whose awkwardness feels like actual shyness, not shtick, which makes you root for him.
