Gearshift

Gearshift turns up as one of the rough-edged robots populating Futurama's grimy corners of New New York, the kind of hardware you'd expect to find hanging around a chop shop or a bar rather than driving the plot. He talks tough, minds his own business, and exists mostly to color in the show's mechanical underworld.

Billy West, already juggling half the cast, gives even a background bot like Gearshift a distinct rasp and attitude rather than recycling a stock robot voice. It's a small example of the show's density: side characters get just enough personality to feel like they have a life happening off-screen.
