Gale Leery

Gale is Dawson's mother, a local news anchor in Capeside juggling career ambitions with the messiness of family life. She's warm but distracted, trying to hold her marriage and household together while chasing her own professional identity. Early on she's caught in a personal crisis that puts real strain on her son's sense of security at home.

Mary-Margaret Humes plays Gale as a real adult with her own unresolved wants rather than a background parent, which was unusual for teen soap mothers. The show lets her mistakes be genuinely messy and adult-rated, and Humes brings a brittle, guilty warmth to scenes where Gale has to face Dawson as both son and moral judge.
