FryFry

Philip J. Fry is a hapless twenty-something pizza delivery boy in 1999 whose life is going nowhere until an accidental thousand-year cryogenic nap drops him into New New York. Broke, unemployed, and utterly without prospects in his own time, he greets the future with dim-witted wonder and immediately falls back into the one job he knows: delivery boy.

Billy West gives Fry a nasal, guileless voice that makes his stupidity feel sweet rather than grating, and the writing never punishes him for being uncynical in a cynical universe. He's the audience's stand-in, gawking at flying cars and mutant sewer workers, but his genuine warmth toward Leela and Bender gives the sci-fi silliness an actual heart.
