Fry

Philip J. Fry is a slacker pizza delivery boy in 1999 who falls into a cryogenic tube and wakes up a thousand years later with no skills, no family, and no idea how anything works. He's cheerful, dim, impulsive, and instantly smitten with Leela, thrilled mostly that the future has hoverboards and robots.

Billy West gives him a goofy, guileless voice that makes his dumbness endearing rather than grating, and the writing uses him as our stand-in for wonder at the absurd future while never letting him get too competent to be funny. Underneath the slapstick sits real, unforced sweetness about being unmoored and starting over.
