Fred E. "Freddy" Knight

Freddy runs his wing of Rikers Island the way other men run companies — calmly, from a position no one questions. When the terrified young inmate Naz arrives awaiting trial, Freddy takes a proprietary interest in him, offering protection with the unhurried air of a man who has never once needed to raise his voice to be obeyed.

Michael K. Williams plays authority as stillness rather than menace, and the writing backs him up by making Freddy genuinely literate and shrewd rather than a stock prison boss. Every scene with Naz becomes a quiet negotiation over what protection actually costs, and Williams lets you feel the calculation under the calm.
