Frank Randall

Frank Randall meets us on holiday in the Scottish Highlands with his wife Claire, the two of them rebuilding their marriage after years apart during the war. He's an Oxford historian, charming and inquisitive, more interested in tracing his own ancestry through old army records than in anything supernatural the standing stones might suggest.

Tobias Menzies plays Frank with an easy warmth that makes the marriage feel worth saving, all soft humor and genuine curiosity about Claire's inner life. That same actor also plays Frank's 18th-century ancestor, a piece of casting that turns an ordinary honeymooning historian into something quietly unsettling before the story even asks you to notice.
