Fountain Kraken

Fountain Kraken is one of New New York's odder bits of civic furniture — a kraken worked into a public fountain, glimpsed rather than introduced, existing mostly to remind you that Futurama's future is stuffed with strange, half-explained monuments that nobody in the show finds strange at all.

The joke is entirely in the confidence of it: nobody stops to explain the kraken, and Maurice LaMarche's voice work treats a tentacled fountain ornament with the same seriousness he'd give a Bureaucrat or a Calculon, which is exactly why Futurama's background gags land harder than its foreground ones.
