Floyd Pepper

Floyd Pepper plays bass for the Electric Mayhem, the house band tucked away from the main stage but never far from the chaos. He's cool where the rest of the theater is frantic, dry-witted, a little world-weary, always ready with a laid-back quip. Music matters more to him than the show's constant backstage pandemonium.

Jerry Nelson gives him a loose, husky drawl that cuts through the Muppet Show's mayhem like a held note — he's the calm center that makes the surrounding hysteria funnier by contrast. Floyd never needs to raise his voice to be heard, and that restraint, rare in Muppet comedy, is exactly what makes him memorable.
