Character

Fernando Duque

Fernando Duque in Narcos (2015), played by Bruno Bichir.

Fernando Duque moves through the corridors of power that surround Mexico's drug trade, a fixer whose value lies in connections rather than muscle. He speaks the language of lawyers and officials, brokering favors quietly, and treats every negotiation as an opportunity to keep his own hands technically clean while everyone around him gets dirtier.

Bruno Bichir plays him with the calm of a man who has learned to survive by being useful to whoever holds the leash that week. The writing keeps him just ambiguous enough that you're never sure whose interests he actually serves, and Bichir's understated, watchful performance makes that uncertainty the point.

He was a member of the Colombian Liberal Party since his youth, and he became a member of the Departmental Assembly of Antioquia in 1982 after being a successful lawyer. It was in the early 1980s that Duque was able to meet Pablo Escobar, who was introduced to him by the news anchor Valeria Velez.
