Father Gabriel Stokes

When Rick's group finds him, Gabriel Stokes is a priest alone in an untouched church, jumpy and evasive, quoting scripture more easily than he explains himself. He offers sanctuary but flinches from violence, and something about his composure feels rehearsed rather than earned, as if faith is covering for guilt he won't name.

Seth Gilliam plays Gabriel's piety as a performance under strain, all soft reassurance with panic flickering underneath, which makes the character a puzzle rather than a type. The show uses him to ask what survival costs a supposedly good man, and Gilliam's slow unraveling into something sturdier is one of the series' better redemption arcs.
