Father Benedict is a churchman moving through the uneasy world of early England, where Christian clergy and Saxon lords depend on each other as much as they distrust the old pagan ways around them. Patrick Robinson brings a still, watchful dignity to a role that could easily be background dressing in a show built around swordplay and shield walls. He makes the character's certainty in his own righteousness feel lived-in rather than performed, which is what lets small scenes of him carry real tension.
