Erin Quinn

Erin Quinn is a Derry teenager convinced she's destined for great things—a poet, a romantic, a diarist certain her inner life is more interesting than everyone else's. She bosses her cousin Orla and her friends around, chases boys with theatrical intensity, and narrates her own adolescence like it's the most important story in Ireland, all against the backdrop of the Troubles she barely registers.

Jackson plays Erin's self-importance with total commitment, which is the joke and the charm of it: she's insufferable in exactly the way sixteen-year-olds are supposed to be, oblivious to how ridiculous her grand declarations sound next to actual history unfolding outside her window. The gap between how Erin sees herself and how she actually comes across is where the comedy lives.
