Character

Erin Hannon

Erin Hannon in The Office (2005), played by Ellie Kemper.

Erin Hannon arrives at Dunder Mifflin as the new receptionist, filling Pam's old desk with a bright, guileless enthusiasm that suggests she has never quite worked in an office before. She's eager to be liked, quick to overshare, and endearingly unfamiliar with basic workplace norms, treating every small kindness like a minor miracle.

Ellie Kemper plays naivety without ever making Erin seem stupid — there's a genuine sweetness underneath the odd non sequiturs and mangled idioms that keeps her from becoming a joke. The show gives her real interiority beneath the ditziness, and Kemper's total sincerity makes Erin's warmth land as charm rather than shtick.

Erin is portrayed by Ellie Kemper. She is an original character, although her closest equivalent in the British version of the series would be Mel the receptionist, who appears briefly in The Christmas specials, as Dawn Tinsley's replacement.
