Character

Erik

Erik in The Last Kingdom (2015), played by Christian Hillborg.

Erik is a Danish warlord, brother to Sigefrid, and one half of a formidable pairing of raiders pressing into Wessex. Where his brother rages and postures, Erik is the calmer, more calculating presence — watchful, pragmatic, weighing risk before violence, and clearly the one holding the alliance together through sense rather than fury.

He's the counterweight the story needs: a Viking leader defined by restraint rather than spectacle, which makes his moments of decisiveness land harder. Christian Hillborg plays him with a quiet, appraising stillness that suggests intelligence and patience beneath the armor, making Erik feel like the dangerous one precisely because he never has to shout.

Erik Thurgilson was a main character and antagonist turned ally in both The Saxon Stories novel series, and The Last Kingdom television series. In The Last Kingdom, he acts as one of the two tertiary antagonists during the first half of Season 2 and an anti-hero during its second half . He was a Norse Earl and the brother of Sigefrid Thurgilson.
