Enrique "Rickie" Vasquez

Rickie drifts through Liberty High at Angela and Rayanne's side, all eyeliner and quiet watchfulness, the friend who notices everything and says little about himself. He's funny and tender with the girls, careful and guarded everywhere else, a kid visibly working out who he's allowed to be in a school that hasn't made room for him yet.

The show trusts Wilson Cruz with silences instead of speeches, and he fills them with real ache — a flinch, a held breath, a joke thrown up as cover. Rickie was rare for network television in 1994, a gay teenager written with dignity rather than punchline, and Cruz plays him as a whole person first, which is exactly why he still lands.
