Elzar is New New York's most theatrical chef, presiding over a restaurant kitchen with the swagger of a man who has never doubted his own genius. He shouts, he flambés, he serves food to the Planet Express crew with total confidence in its quality, whether or not that confidence is warranted. Every dish is an event.

He's a one-joke premise executed with such gusto that the joke never wears out: a cooking-show parody dropped whole into a science-fiction sitcom. DiMaggio plays him at maximum volume, all bravado and sizzle, so that his cheerful disregard for whether his food is actually edible becomes the whole punchline, delivered with total sincerity.
