Edward Sledge

A Marine among the young men who make up the ensemble of The Pacific, Edward Sledge arrives in the story as one more face bound for the war's brutal island campaigns. The show is built from real testimony, and its Marines are introduced as ordinary men — trained, uncertain, waiting to find out who they'll be under fire.

The Pacific earns its power by refusing to give any single Marine an easy arc, letting the horror of combat do the character work instead of dialogue. Joshua Close fits that approach: understated, present in the frame rather than performing for it, part of an ensemble where restraint reads truer than heroics ever could.
