Character

Edna

Edna in Futurama (1999), played by Tress MacNeille.

Edna appears as one of the many small, sharp-edged faces that populate Futurama's twisty vision of the future, a minor figure glimpsed going about her business in New New York with the show's usual deadpan absurdity. She is not a lead, but part of the crowded, lived-in world around Fry and the Planet Express crew.

Tress MacNeille built a career voicing dozens of these background figures, and even a small, briefly seen character like Edna benefits from her gift for quick, distinct vocal characterization. It is a testament to the show's density and MacNeille's versatility that even minor names carry a flicker of personality.

Edna was a Decapodian woman who went to school with Zoidberg. She carried more eggs than any other female of her species: as such she wanted to mate with a rock star. She liked to talk about things of little importance at great length (much to the annoyance of those talking to her.) Her apartment is decorated like a fish tank.
