Eddie Huang

Eddie Huang is the eldest son of a Taiwanese immigrant family who just moved from Washington, D.C.'s Chinatown to suburban Orlando in 1995. He's obsessed with hip-hop, Shaq, and Notorious B.I.G., and desperate to fit in at his new mostly-white school, even as his mom packs him noodles he's embarrassed to eat at lunch.

Hudson Yang plays Eddie with a swagger that's equal parts real and performed, a kid trying on an identity like an oversized jersey. The show lets him be funny and awkward without ever making his cultural in-betweenness a punchline at his expense, and Yang's deadpan delivery makes his hunger to belong feel specific rather than generic.
