Dwight Kurt Schrute

Dwight is assistant regional manager of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch — a title he has assigned himself and Michael Scott has never confirmed. A beet farmer, volunteer sheriff's deputy, and fiercely loyal salesman, he treats office rules and martial arts philosophy with equal solemnity, and views his coworkers' mockery as simple failure to appreciate excellence.

The joke is that Dwight means every word. Rainn Wilson plays the character with total, unblinking sincerity, so the absurdity comes from the gap between his self-image and reality rather than from any wink to camera. That commitment turns a workplace weirdo into someone whose devotion, once earned, becomes oddly moving.
