Dr. Richard Clarkson

Dr. Clarkson is the local physician who tends to the Crawley family and the servants of Downton with equal seriousness. Practical, plain-spoken, and devoted to his profession, he moves between the great house and the village, often the first outsider to see illness or crisis clearly before the family will admit it.

David Robb gives Clarkson a steady, unglamorous competence that makes him one of the few characters unmoved by rank. The writing uses him as a truth-teller in a world of manners, and Robb's quiet, unshowy warmth makes his medical candour feel like kindness rather than intrusion.
