Dr Martin King is a London physician who steps into his friend David Keel's shoes, drawn reluctantly into the world of espionage and crime that keeps crossing his surgery door. Steady, principled and a little startled by the company he now keeps, he wants nothing more than to practise medicine in peace, and rarely gets to.

King exists to bridge a cast change, and Jon Rollason plays that awkward position with quiet decency rather than resentment, giving the transitional episodes an ordinary man's honest bewilderment at Steed's world. He's a footnote in the show's history, but a graceful one: unflashy, sincere, easy to like.
