Dr. Lisa Cuddy

Dr. Lisa Cuddy runs Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, which means running Dr. House — coaxing, threatening, and bargaining clinic hours out of him to keep the board off her back. She's brilliant, exacting, and visibly out of patience with his stunts, but she keeps hiring him anyway, and clearly for reasons beyond his diagnostic gift.

The role could have been pure straight-man scolding, but Lisa Edelstein plays Cuddy's authority as genuine rather than decorative — she's sharper than the exasperation lets on, and the show trusts her competence enough to let House's respect for her feel earned. The sparring is fun precisely because she never actually loses.
