Dr. Lawrence Jacoby

Laura Palmer's psychiatrist turns up to her funeral in a garish red-and-blue-lensed pair of glasses and a Hawaiian shirt, tanned and unbothered by the town's raw grief. He speaks in therapist calm laced with something stranger, clearly holding pieces of Laura's secret life that he isn't rushing to share with anyone, least of all the police.

Russ Tamblyn plays him as a man who has spent decades cultivating eccentricity as camouflage, so you can never tell if the tropical shirts and odd affect are harmless quirk or genuine derangement. The show uses him to needle at Twin Peaks' respectable surface, and Tamblyn's loose, sun-baked performance makes Jacoby feel like he wandered in from somewhere the town would rather not think about.
