Dr. Jean Milburn

Jean Milburn is a sex therapist and author living in a house full of pottery and frank pamphlets, raising her teenage son Otis largely alone. She's confident, professionally unshockable, and treats every subject—arousal, shame, communication—with the same clinical warmth, even when it embarrasses Otis to the point of despair.

Anderson plays Jean with a purring self-possession that's funny precisely because she never notices it's funny to anyone else. The writing uses her expertise as both gift and intrusion: she can diagnose a stranger's marriage in a sentence but misses what's happening under her own roof, which gives the comedy real bite.
