Wilson is Dr. Gregory House's closest friend at Princeton-Plainsboro, an oncologist whose gentleness and patience act as a steady counterweight to House's chaos. He's married, well-liked, endlessly forgiving of House's manipulations and debts, and quietly complicit in enabling the very behavior he claims to disapprove of.

Robert Sean Leonard plays kindness as a complicated trait rather than a simple virtue — Wilson's niceness has edges, needs, and blind spots of its own. The friendship with House becomes the show's real emotional spine, and Leonard's understated warmth makes Wilson feel like the one person House can't fully push away.
