Dr. Jack Shephard

A spinal surgeon jolted awake in a bamboo forest, Jack Shephard runs toward the wreckage before he even finds his footing, pulling strangers from fire and confusion. He's a fixer by instinct, allergic to helplessness, already assuming responsibility for e48 survivors who never asked him to lead. He wants order restored and won't examine why that matters so much to him.

Matthew Fox plays competence as a kind of flinch — Jack's calm is visibly effortful, a man holding a line so no one, including himself, has to look at what's underneath. The show hands him an impossible authority he never sought, and the tension between his surgeon's certainty and his private doubt is what makes every decision he makes feel costly.
