Dr. Beverly Crusher

Beverly Crusher is chief medical officer aboard the Enterprise, a widowed single mother continuing a career built partly in her late husband's shadow. She is warm, direct, and fiercely competent, equally at home in a triage bay or debating Picard on the ethics of a mission. Her son Wesley serves on the same ship.

McFadden plays competence without coldness, letting Crusher's bedside warmth coexist with a scientist's insistence on evidence and a captain's willingness to argue with her captain. The writing trusts her judgment more than most Trek doctors get trusted, and the long, unresolved rapport with Picard gives quiet scenes real charge.
