Dougal MacKenzie

Dougal MacKenzie is war chieftain of Clan MacKenzie, brother to its laird, and the man actually holding the reins while Colum's illness keeps him from the field. He's a fighter, a fundraiser, a schemer for the Jacobite cause, and the one who decides what to do with the strange Englishwoman who's washed up at Castle Leoch.

Graham McTavish plays Dougal as appetite made flesh — for cause, coin, and conquest — and never lets you settle on whether he's protector or predator. The writing gives him real political cunning and a soldier's charisma, but it's McTavish's volatility, that switch from roaring warmth to cold calculation, that makes him impossible to look away from.
