DOOP Soldier

A rank-and-file member of the Democratic Order of Planets, DOOP Soldier turns up in the background of Futurama's space-opera episodes wherever the show needs a uniformed body to salute, march, or take orders from Zapp Brannigan. Loyal, unremarkable, and thoroughly expendable, he exists to fill out the ranks of a very silly interplanetary military.

Futurama's gag machine runs partly on these disposable extras, and Phil LaMarr's voice work gives DOOP Soldier just enough deadpan officiousness to sell the joke that the galaxy's peacekeeping force is staffed by interchangeable nobodies. It's a small, efficient bit of world-building dressed up as a throwaway line.
