Donna Moss

Donna Moss is Josh Lyman's assistant in the White House deputy chief of staff's office, quick-witted and unflappable amid constant crisis. She fields his calls, manages his chaos, and holds her own in rapid-fire banter, clearly smarter and more capable than her title suggests. She wants to be taken seriously, and keeps proving why she should be.

The show hands her a running joke about her job description and then spends years dismantling it, letting Moloney turn banter into a slow-burn case for competence. Her rapport with Josh crackles because she never plays subordinate for long — she needles, corrects, and outpaces him, and the writing trusts her timing enough to let silences land as hard as her lines.
