Donald G. Malarkey

Don Malarkey is a sergeant in Easy Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, one of the young men Herbert Sobel drills relentlessly at Toccoa before they jump into Normandy. Wiry, quick-witted, and well liked by the other men, he's competent under pressure and easy company in the barracks — a soldier's soldier rather than a natural leader chasing rank.

Scott Grimes plays him with an unforced, low-key warmth that makes Malarkey one of the ensemble's most human anchors — not a standout hero but the guy whose steadiness and dry humor you register scene after scene. The performance trusts small gestures over speeches, so his grief and exhaustion later land because the ordinariness was so convincing first.
