Diane is one half of the Johnson family's youngest set of twins, and by far the sharpest tongue in the house. Dry, watchful, and unnervingly perceptive for a kid, she sizes up her parents' hypocrisies and siblings' foibles with a deadpan glare, dispensing verdicts most adults wouldn't dare say out loud.

The writers hand her a kid's face and an adult's editorial voice, and Marsai Martin plays the gap for maximum effect, delivering brutal one-liners with total composure while everyone around her reacts like they've been slapped. She's funniest precisely because she never seems to be trying to be funny.
