Detective Sergeant Dennis Box

Detective Sergeant Dennis Box catches the case that will consume the whole series: a young woman dead, a bewildered kid named Naz found near the body. Box is old-school NYPD, patient and unhurried, working the room and the evidence with the calm of a man who has closed hundreds of these before this one.

Bill Camp plays procedure as character — the slow questions, the coffee-cup pauses, the way Box lets silence do the interrogating. He's not a shouter or a cynic; he's just very good at his job, which makes the moral fog around that job so much more unsettling to watch.
