Detective Odis Weff

Odis Weff is a deputy under Sheriff Roy Tillman in rural Minnesota, a jittery, ritual-bound man who taps and counts and touches things in precise patterns to keep his anxiety in check. He wants to do right by the badge, but debts and old favors have already put him in a position where doing right is complicated.

Jack Huston plays the compulsions as lived-in rather than quirky, small physical tics that read as genuine distress instead of comic shorthand. The character sits at the moral hinge of the season, a decent man boxed in by weakness and obligation, and Huston makes his flop sweat and hesitation feel achingly human.
