Detective Marcus Bell

Marcus Bell is an NYPD homicide detective working alongside Captain Gregson, tasked with tolerating the erratic genius of Sherlock Holmes on his cases. He's sharp, no-nonsense, and openly skeptical of Sherlock's methods at first, but he's also a genuinely good cop who cares about doing right by victims and by the job.

Jon Michael Hill plays Bell as a real detective rather than comic relief for the eccentric consultant beside him — competent, wry, quick to call out nonsense. The writing lets him grow from wary colleague into someone Sherlock and Joan actually trust, and Hill makes that shift feel earned rather than assigned, one dry line at a time.
