Detective Hauser

A county detective called in when the murder of a local teenager overwhelms the small-town police department, Hauser is paired with Mare Sheehan to work the case properly. He is methodical, a little weary, and unimpressed by small-town shortcuts, but not unkind about the mess he has walked into.

Ned Eisenberg plays him as the straight man against Mare's stubbornness, and the show uses that friction well: he is the outside eye insisting on procedure in a town that runs on grudges and history. Eisenberg keeps him dry and grounded, never a scold, which makes him easy to trust.
