Det. Stanley "Wojo" Wojciehowicz

Wojo is one of the detectives working the squad room of Greenwich Village's 12th Precinct, a big, guileless ex-military man who wears his feelings on his sleeve. He's earnest to a fault, quick to moralize, easily flustered by the parade of oddballs coming through the door, and endearingly slow to catch the jokes his colleagues make at his expense.

Max Gail plays him as pure sincerity in a room full of dry wit, and that contrast is the joke and the heart of it at once. Wojo says the naive thing out loud, gets teased for it, and somehow remains the moral center of the precinct anyway — a big lunk whose decency never reads as stupidity.
