Det. Sgt. Nick Yemana

Nick Yemana works his desk at the 12th Precinct with the weary calm of a man who has seen every kind of Greenwich Village weirdness twice. He cracks jokes in a flat, unhurried mumble, keeps a running interest in the horses, and makes the worst coffee in Manhattan without ever quite admitting it's his fault.

Jack Soo's genius is timing so dry it barely registers as a punchline until the room catches up a beat later — the show hands him one-liners and he refuses to sell them, which somehow makes them funnier. Yemana is proof that a sitcom cop can be memorable through sheer unbothered stillness rather than schtick.
