Det. Ray Velcoro

A Vinci detective with a mustache and a fraying marriage, Ray Velcoro is bought and owned by the city he polices. He drinks, he intimidates, he sees his son on weekends, and he does favors for men he shouldn't. He carries himself like a man already resigned to what he's become.

Farrell plays him at half-speed, all sunk eyes and quiet menace, so the self-loathing reads even when the dialogue is doing noir-pastiche heavy lifting. It's a performance built on stillness — a man watching himself do bad things and hating that he still can — and that discipline holds the show's grimmest season together.
