Det. Arthur Dietrich

Dietrich holds down the 12th Precinct's squad room with an air of unbothered, encyclopedic calm. He answers absurd questions with deadpan precision, quotes obscure facts nobody asked for, and treats every crisis — human or bureaucratic — with the same flat, philosophical patience. Little seems to surprise him; almost nothing seems to matter enough to hurry over.

Landesberg's genius is timing: he lets a line sit a half-beat longer than expected, so the joke arrives as much from stillness as from wit. Dietrich never chases a laugh, which makes the writers' driest, strangest digressions land harder — a rare sitcom performance built entirely on withholding rather than reaching.
