Deputy Molly Solverson

Molly Solverson is a small-town Minnesota deputy in the early stages of pregnancy, sharp-eyed and methodical, working a homicide her boss keeps waving off as open-and-shut. She's polite to a fault, unfailingly courteous even to people she suspects of lying, but she doesn't let go of a thread once she's pulled it.

The writing trusts her competence rather than testing it, which is rarer than it should be — she's never the one who needs saving. Tolman plays her with a soft-spoken steadiness that makes her doggedness feel like decency rather than obsession, and the show is smart enough to know she's the moral center of the whole thing.
