Deacon Mark Burton

Deacon Mark Burton is a young cleric at St. Michael's in Easttown, newly arrived and eager to seem approachable rather than remote. He counsels troubled teenagers, including Erin McMenamin, and presents himself as a patient, gentle presence in a town that regards outsiders and authority figures with equal suspicion.

McArdle plays him with a careful, watchful stillness that never quite settles into reassurance — you're never sure if you're watching kindness or performance. The show uses the town's wariness of the church itself, letting his soft-spoken decency curdle into something you can't stop scrutinizing every time he's on screen.
