David Wilkes drifts through the BBC's endless meetings as one of its many executives with a vague, impressive-sounding title and even vaguer grasp of what he actually does. He speaks fluent corporate nonsense, nods along to ideas he doesn't understand, and seems entirely at home in an organisation that prizes the appearance of purpose over the thing itself.

Rufus Jones plays him with a bland, unbothered confidence that makes the character's emptiness genuinely funny rather than grating — he never signals the joke, just delivers meaningless jargon as though it were wisdom. In a show built on institutional absurdity, Wilkes is proof that fitting in perfectly can be its own kind of comic achievement.
