Character
Dar Adal
Dar Adal in Homeland (2011), played by F. Murray Abraham.
Dar Adal moves through Washington's intelligence world like someone who has never once been surprised by it. A veteran operative and old friend to Saul Berenson, he trades in favors, black budgets, and quiet leverage, always positioned just outside the official chain of command — advising, needling, and rarely explaining himself fully.
F. Murray Abraham plays him with a stillness that reads as total control; he barely raises his voice and somehow still dominates every room he enters. The writing keeps his loyalties deliberately opaque, and Abraham uses that ambiguity beautifully, letting you feel the decades of tradecraft behind his calm without ever tipping his hand.
Dar Adal is a CIA Black Operations Director and an old friend of Saul Berenson's. Dar and Berenson served for a period at the CIA station in Nairobi, Kenya, mainly on covert operations in neighboring Somalia (Homeland Novel: Saul's Game). Adal did used to be head of black ops (as we know from late Season 2). I wonder if his role shifted after the Langley bombing since so many of his colleagues were killed.
